Who They Are
One of our favourite rest stops on the Culture Scouts Chipper-Red Tour, Brickfields is a stalwart café/bakery favourite for locals, as well as a wholesale bread-and-bean retailer.
What Makes them Special
Brickfields café is a labour of love by culinary creatives from all sides of the industry. Co-owner Paul Geshos brings special coffee brews from his other business, Mecca, while head chef and co-owner, Simon Cancio, goes to Flemington market once a week to forage for ingredients and seasonal dish ideas. Their daily bread and pastries are made with traditional artisanal methods by a dedicated team of bakers at their other site in Marrickville.
Chew on That
The café’s food offerings circle around being unfussy, wholesome and of a high-end quality, with finely made quiches, cakes, tarts, sandwiches and salads. Favourites include the Persian Love Cake and bacon sandwich that’s housed in a seeded ciabatta. Dessert pastries hover around the $5 mark and main dishes come in around $10.
