Your Guide to Father's Day
Father’s Day is just around the corner, and if you’re stuck for ideas, Culture Scouts is here to help you out! Spoil your dad a little early with our Saturday Street Art Tour including a very special beer tasting at Young Henry’s Brewery. But the fun doesn’t have to stop there! We’ve mapped out some of the best places to eat and drink in Sydney’s Inner West, and maybe buy a last minute Father’s Day gift for the dad that has it all.
Start your day off right with a yummy breakfast at Rising Sun Workshop, you’ll need as much energy as you can get for the big day of walking ahead. Load up on a Hokkaido Milk Bun, Breakfast Ramen, or Breakfast Bibimbap. They serve a great cup of coffee as well. Whether your dad rides a motorbike or not, there’s something undeniably cool about eating in a motorcycle workshop.
The Street Art Tour is up next on the itinerary. Head on down to Newtown Station to meet your friendly guide, a practising street artist them self, who will take you across Newtown and Enmore, discovering some of the grungy backstreets and seeing incredible street art around every corner. Learn a bit more about the process behind painting a mural, and meet the local characters that brighten up the neighbourhood.
Your guide will end the tour at Young Henry’s Brewery, hidden away in the back streets of Newtown. Here you can enjoy a sneak peek behind the scenes and enjoy a wonderful beer tasting. May I suggest the Motorcycle Oil Hoppy Porter or some of their incredible gin. The Newtowner Pale Ale is always a safe bet as well.
But now it’s lunch time! Where should you eat? Cairo Takeaway! Just around the corner on Enmore Road, Cairo Takeaway offers incredible Egyptian food. Have a pocket to yourself, or order a few plates to share with the whole family. Maybe pop over to P&V Wine + Liquor Merchants across the road for a yummy bottle of natural wine to wash down the meal.
Now it’s time for a bit of shopping, if like me, you tend to leave things to the very last minute. There’s Pentimento, a specialty book and gift store sitting in the heart of Newtown. Maybe it’s time you bought your dad a diary so he can write down all the birthdays he seems to forget. The other option is a record shopping spree. Head over here to see where to score some of the best new and second-hand records in Newtown. Dad can relive his glory days as he rebuilds that incredible record collection.
Top off a wonderful day with a cocktail at Corridor. A little hole in the wall with some of the friendliest bar staff in Newtown. Sit back with a nice glass of wine or one of their specialty cocktails. The Corridor Zombie is fruity and easy to drink, while the New York Sazerac is a little more classy if you really want to pull out all the stops for dad.
So book a spot for you and your dad on our Newtown Street Art Tour on August 31st. Spend the day together on the Saturday, so your dad can spend Sunday lounging about on the couch with a little bit of peace and quiet. We also have gift vouchers available here if you think there’s another tour that you and your dad would like to try.
